Zombie Concept Art
So last week I got a commissioned to create some concept art/ illustration pieces to help pitch some short films based on an upcoming zombie game. At this point it doesn't look like the projects going to go through but at least I got paid for making some cool art. The above pieces were drawn and Inked by hand then scanned in an coloured using Photoshop, Enjoy.

Spitballin Pin-up
So back in February I got asked to do a guest submission over at Spitballin, It's a great site run by some friends of mine from school. Each week they come up with a comic character and everyone submits their interpretation of said character. I got asked to draw Captain Cold who is a member of the Flash's rogues gallery, and though I wasn't too familiar with the character I gave it a shot and had a lot of fun with it. I penciled and inked it traditionally, then scanned it in and Coloured the piece with photoshop. Don't forget to check out the site at http://spitballincomics.blogspot.ca/ and enjoy!

Convention Sketches
Last August I had a table at Fan-Expo in Toronto. While I was there I was promoting my at the time new web comic I Heart Viking while selling a print and doing some sketches. So I thought I'd show everyone some of the sketches I did for commissions and include the print I was selling. The Final Fantasy one was the hardest as I've never played the game and didn't know who the characters looked like. Basically I took a picture of the guy who wanted the commission and used the Internet to look up Tifa Lockhart, Aerith Gainsborough and the buster sword. Unfortunately Fan Expo destroys all cell phone communication every year. So I only got a few glimpses of the characters before it stopped working, but in general I thought it turned out pretty good. As for the Emma and Dianna print I draw and Inked it by hand with colours in photoshop.

Webcomics
So about a year and a half ago I started and launched a web comic called I Heart Viking. I got everything up and running for fan expo but right after I realize that my sight had some serious technical flaws and didn't work with certain browsers. So I tried finding someone to fix it but i took along time and most options usually cost more then I could afford. Eventually about 6 months ago I met a guy named Eugene Fong who could help me out with my site in exchange for creating the art for his own web comic, which he wanted to start. So Skip to last month, where we watched both web comics together on new sites using Comicpress, which is a version of Wordpress. You can check out both the sites at www.iheartviking.com and www.weekendpass.net. Ill be posting as I update the sites and to give you an idea of what their about I've included some art for you.

The 4 Horsemen
So as one one my final projects for school last year i had to draw a man riding a horse in my own style and the reinterpret it in 3 additional styles by specific artists. So the first one is in my style, the second is based off picasso's cubism, the third is a van gogh style and the final one is the style of Miro. Their all done tradionaly with mine in Inks, Picasso in markers, Van Gogh in Acrylic and Miro in watercoulour. In general I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out especially the Miro.

Illuminated Manuscript lettering project

Hey everyone, here s some more work from my children Book Illustration class, from this semester that just finished. The project was to create a unique font and to Illustrate 8 letters and 2 numbers in said font, depicting related imagery around the Letters. so for mine I took my Inspiration from Celtic Illuminated Manuscripts, and designed my letters to be a combination of Old Medieval fonts with some Runes thrown in. The first and main image, is using the letter S and so features the story of St. George and the Dragon. I actually wrote out a poem and Illustrated it in the letters but it had been a while since I used pen nibs so I was really fighting with them and the paper the whole time, It also helped me realize that I totally put emphasis on the wrong staff in the individual letters. The poem is as follows
"St George sat upon his horse beside the lakes shore,
In the far land of Silene he gazed the serpent of lore.
There he met the fair princess Sabra, a sheep's sacrifice to replace,
for the mighty dragon had gained a greater taste.
With sign of cross and spear in hand he set upon the beast,
it's point making a rush of blood that would not seem to cease.
Drawing forth the sword Ascalon he leaped off his steed,
under a sky of seven stars he finished his holy deed."
For the actual image I referenced a lot of byzantine art, and classic illustrations of the actual legend. I used watercolours to paint the image, finishing the line work in Inks as well as using actual gold Ink for the interior of the letter. I tried both Windsor and Newton gold Ink as well as Liquitex acrylic inkin Iridescent bright gold, but neither had the feel I was looking for so I ended up mixing them and laying down a thin Ink wash over thick flat yellow coat in watercolour, for a nice warm golden feel.
For the other 7 letters and number, I illustrated all of them on a large sheet in blue line, and was going to paint over them to but I quickly realized that they would take forever to paint. One of the people in my class used Copic markers to colour her project and even tho I don't have much marker experience I decide to do likewise to save time. I didn't want to accidentally ruin the original since I'd never used colour markers before so I printed them out on separate sheets to colour and ink. I was quite surprised and very much enjoyed the results, I recommend Copics to any one who wants to get into using markers. In each letter I included one type of stone, one creature and one flower. For anyone interested In what the images contain here s a list of the letters and corresponding imagery.
A: Arochs, Amber, Azalea
D: Dragonfly, Diamond, Daphne
E: Elk, Emerald, Edelweiss
G: Grey Wolf, Geode, Gladiolus
B: Bear, Bloodstone, Bluebell
P: Plesiosaurus, Pearl, Peony
3: 3 point Celtic knot, 3 interlocking horseshoes, Trillium
5: Pentagram, 5 chord celtic rope work, Rosaceae (Strawberry)
R: Raven, Ruby, Rose
Well I think that's about it, until next time!

The Wilderness EP

So I recently did a job for a band called the Wilderness. Their releasing their first album near the end of the November and asked me to do 5 drawings, to be used as poster inserts with the Vinyl Record. The originals were penciled and inked at 12x12 inch with brush and pen. I then did the colours in photoshop. These are the final print ready versions of the drawings.

Childhood Hero's self portrait

So I'm back in school now, and I thought I'd post up one of the assignments I've gotten for my Children's book Illustration class. Basically we have to do a self portrait that also includes our child hood heros. So growing up watching Ninja turtles and Batman: TAS, I figured I'd work those in some how. I've included all the stages of the process here just to give you an Idea of how I work. Heres the initial concept sketch's and thumbnail, the penciled image, a inked lighting study, the coloured piece, and the final finished image.
